TRACK AND FIELD: MASTERS

Master athletes from all over the country headed to the DSD track on Tibradden Lane on Saturday (July11) for the second DSD Masters Games - a one day team league. Eight events and two relays were on offer, with the top eight results to score. Points were awarded not just on finishing places but also on age categories. Host club DSD had won the inaugural title last year but this time there was no stopping Clonliffe, with the likes of Edel Maguire picking up multiple points in the 100m, 200 and high jump and Niall Allen equally unstoppable in the shot and discus. Race of the day was the men’s 1500m, where Clonliffe’s Niall Sherlock sprinted past Paul Fleming of Rathfarnham WSAF for a narrow victory. For DSD, distance runner Tony O’Halloran had a busy day, running way below his comfort zone in the 800m, 1500m and 4 x 400m relay, as did supervet Peadar McGing first M70 in the 200m, discus and high jump. Here’s to next year!
