DUBLIN GRADED TRACK AND FIELDS MEETS - THE AWARDS
A total of 1,090 athletes completed in the Dublin Graded Track and Field League, which consisted of eight rounds mostly in Santry but also at the DSD, Irishtown and Lucan Harriers tracks. Of those 87 % competed in the track events and 13% in the field; 62% were men and 38% women and 68% came from Dublin. Of the four grades, grades A and C proved the most popular both taking up 27% of the entry. Many new clubs have appeared in the Dublin area over the last few years and for the first time Ballymun AC had two athletes featuring in the awards. Helping make it all happen were over fifty volunteers although, as meet director Dermot Nagle gently pointed out, more are needed from all participating clubs if the graded leagues are to continue. Here’s to next year when the first meet of the season will take place on Saturday May 1.
