NATIONAL ROAD RELAYS - SENIOR WINS FOR CLONLIFFE AND DCH 

After losing out to Ennis TC a year earlier, Clonliffe Harriers regained the men’s title at the National Road Relays, Raheny, Dublin on Sunday (April 26). On the opening two-mile leg, Donore’s Louis O’Loughlin  had a marginal lead over Ben Guiden for Clonliffe, DSD’s Killian Mooney and Cillian Kirwan for Raheny Shamrock. After second leg over a mile, Fintan Kerins handed over to Colm Rooney for the three mile leg and after that it was Clonliffe all the way. Ian Guiden on the final leg, another two-miler, brought the team home for a comfortable win in 37 mins 4 secs. Donore Harriers were second in 37:28 and Dundrum South Dublin third in 37:36. It was an eighteenth  title for Clonliffe. Clonliffe also holds the record for the current format at 26 mins 45 secs run in 2022.


In the women’s race consisting of  a mile, a two-mile and then a final one mile leg- Dublin City Harriers were the winners by six second’s from St Abban’s AC and  defending champions Dundrum South Dublin AC. After the opening leg, Maisy O’Sullivan for St Abban’s  and Holly Carroll for  DSD were first to the changeover area ahead of Orla Duffy for DCH.

By the end of the two mile leg, DCH ’s Faye Dervan had put DCH into the lead with Cheryl Nolan for St Abban’s chasing hard.  For DCH, Lucy Holmes set off on the final mile and duly brought  DCH home ahead of Emily O’Shea for St Abban’s. A fine leg for  Amy O’Donoghue meant DSD finished third ahead of Lucan Harriers  and Clonliffe Harriers. It was a tenth title for DCH and their first since 1991 — a quarter of a century ago.


In the master women’s races, Raheny Shamrock won both the W35 and W50 titles.  The trio of Molly Rickard, Fiona Roche and Siobhan Eviston beat Longford AC for the W35 title with Crusaders third.  Zoe Quinn, Annette Kealy and Mary Walsh combined to  win the W50 ahead of Brothers Pearse AC and Donore Harriers. For the men’s M35 title Donore Harriers beat Raheny Shamrock, with  Aidan O’Rourke, John Travers and Eoin Durkan making up the team.  Travers would later run again on the Donore Senior team. Liffey Valley finished third. Dundrum South Dublin’s trio of  Sean Browne, Ruben Bartelink and Aidan Murphy had a soldi victory over Raheny Shamrock and Drogheda and District in the M50 race.

Winning the St Andrew’s 10km inAshbourne, Co Meath, also on Sunday in 34 mins 1 sec was Sean Doran (Clonliffe Harriers). Jennifer Foran (Garristown Flyers) was first woman in 44:30.0. Loads more pics at https://www.flickr.com/photos/lindie/albums/72177720333331618.


Mark Fleming (Dublin Track Club) won the Another Way 5km in Dublin’s Darndale on Saturday (April 25) in 16 mins 31 secs.  Braxton O’Shea (Clonliffe Harriers) was fourth and first U15 in 17:04. Sheila Bourke (Lusk AC) was first woman in 19:37.


Alexy Marchenko (Rathfarnham WSAF AC, M40) won the Royal Canal Run Marathon in Co Longford on Saturday (April 25) in a time of 2 hrs 58 mins 19 secs.


RUN BALLYMUN! 

Coming up on Wednesday May 13, is the annual Ballymun Running Festival with races all day over a numbers of distances all on the 1.4km circuit around the Trinity Comprehensive School’s grounds. Anyone wishing to  get a run in before work or schools can enter the Breakfast Run 5km starting at 7am. That’s followed by series of races for schools  - first primary schools and then the students of Trinity Comp itself, many also helping out on the day. In the evening, half marathon 5km and 10km distances take place from 6pm, with anyone welcome to come along and join in. Info Eoin Fitzmaurice 087 3834052.
