CROSS-COUNTRY BACK IN TYMON PARK! 

Róisín McMahon of the Sportsworld A team took a first win in the Women’s Meet & Train Winter League when round three was held over a 3km course at, Tymon Park, Templeogue, on Sunday (February 22). McMahon pushed the pace from the start and soon had only her teammate Lorna Sheehan for company. The pair duly finished first and second in times of 11 mins 24. secs and 11:28. Finishing third and first W40 in 12:00.4 was Grainne Black (Rathfarnham WSAF AC). Emma Finlay (Esker A) was fourth, Sinead Staunton (Sportsworld B) fifth and Sophie Chisholm (Dundrum South Dublin) sixth. With three finishers in the top seven Sportsworld A lead the team table ahead of their B team, with a fight on for third place between DSD, Crusaders and Blackrock. Teams are divided into five grades. In the age categories, Louise Bruton (Sportsworld B) was first W50 in eighth place overall, followed by Blackrock pair Emma McGrane and Helen Maher. First over 60 was Ann Higgins of the Sportsworld F team, followed by Catherine Kelly (Rathfarnham WSAF) and Noelle Carr (Lucan Harriers. Máirín Shine (Crusaders Diamond) was first over 70 while first over 80 was the legend that is 87-year-old Ann Woodlock (Donore Divas). First visually impaired runner was Niamh Trihy of the Crusaders Tourmaline team who runs with a guide. A record figure of well over 300 women of all ages have registered for this year’s Meet & Train League. Other clubs involved include Waterstown Warriors, Tallaght AC, Dublin Front Runners, Love2Run, Esker, Belpark and Artane- Beaumont. The final round takes place at Abbotstown on Sunday March 29. Newcomers are welcome to come along and see what it’s all about Entry fee is just €5.


Meanwhile on the other side of town, the BHAA cross-country season resumed after numerous weather cancellations with the Teachers 6km at the Clonkeen College grounds. Conor Burke (KPMG) was the winner, with Niall Sherlock (Clonliffe Harriers) second and Kenneth Nugent (Donore Harriers) third. First woman was Sheila Nolan, followed by Vanessa Sallier (Aon/Rathfarnhamm WSAF AC) second, and Ramune Zolbiene (Uniphar/Balbriggan and District AC) third. Next BHAA race is the ALSAA cross-country at Dublin Airport on Saturday (February 28). Weather permitting of course! 


INDOORS 

In Liévin France on Friday (February 20), Luke McCann (Dublin City Harriers) ran 3:39.89 for sixth in the 1,500m B race. A day later, he was in Ourense, Spain, where he won the B 800m race in 1:47.64. His sister Jodie ran a time of 4:12.67 for second place in the women’s 1500m. Closer to home,  Jack Raftery (Donore Harriers) ran a time of 47.01 secs for 400m at the Connaught Indoors in Athlone. All will be in acion at the National Indoors in Abbotstown next weekend. 


ROADS/TRAIL

At the Wicklow Hospice Half-Marathon in Avondale Forest Park, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow on Saturday (February 21), Claire Reynolds (Dundrum South Dublin AC) was first W50 in 1:46.46, while Terence Neary (Clonliffe Harriers) was second M60 in 1:45.38. In the accompanaying 10km, Derek Lawlor (Crusaders, M40) was the winner in 35 mins 37 secs. His clubmate Senan Garvey finished third and first junior in 36:39. First W60 was Linda Casey (Waterstown Warriors) in 57:26, while best of the M60 men was Dougie Bolger (Ballymun AC) in 44:49. 


James Hyland (Raheny Shamrock) was the winner of the Run the Night 5-Mile in Dublin on Wednesday (February 18) in a time of 25 mins 39 secs. Trinity student Evelyn Coughlan in 29:21 was the first woman. The race, which attaracted and entry of over 4,000, was organised by iDonate an online fundraising platform.
