DSD ON THE DOUBLE AT DUBLIN NOVICE CROSS-COUNTRY

Adam Condon (Raheny Shamrock AC ran a smart race to win the men’s 6km race at the Dublin Novice Cross-Country Championships held in perfect autumn conditions on the Magazine Hill course at the Phoenix Park on Sunday (October 4). After taking over in front on the second of four laps, Condon and came home with nine seconds to spare in 17 mins 19 secs. Second in 17:28 was Adam Joachim Shier (Crusaders AC), with Jack Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) third in 17:35. Finishing fourth and fifth and leading Dundrum South Dublin to team victory over Clonliffe Harriers and Raheny Shamrock were John Neville and Gavin Callery. Crusaders AC finished a close fourth with Dublin City Harriers fifth and Donore Harriers sixth of the twelve teams entered. On a good day for the club, Dundrum South Dublin also won both individual and team titles in the women’s 4km race, with Rosin Treacy a clear winner in 12 mins 26 secs. Cara Mohan (Metro St Brigid’s AC) second in 13:01 and Emily Witham (DSD AC) third in 13:20. With four finishers in the top nine, DSD finished well clear of Clonliffe Harriers and Raheny Shamrock in the team competition. On Saturday morning, Aaron Molloy (Raheny Shamrock AC) was a comfortable winner of the Lusk 20-Mile in Co Dublin clocking a time of 1 hr 58 mins 38 secs. Second in 2:02.46 was Colin Daly (Skerries AC), while third was local athlete Luke Carter (Lusk AC) in 2:03.25. First woman was Kate Jakubiak in 2:35.00 . A close second in in 2:35.02 was Chloe McNicholas. Third was Anne Marie Burns (Ballymun AC) in 2:38:34. Keith Kirwan won the half marathon in 92:38, with Catherine Duff was third overall and first woman in 97:42. Darragh Fox and Niamh Burke were the winners of the 10km.


Close to a thousand finished the 43rd Simon 5km Home Run in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, where Cian Charlton (Raheny Shamrock AC) was the winner in 16 mins 18 sec and Fiona Roche, also from Raheny Shamrock AC, first woman in 18:00. In sixth place, David McCarthy was leading home a large group of students from CBC Monkstown.


At the Bear Races Autumn 3/4 Marathon along the Grand Canal at Clondalkin, Dublin, Will Boyle (Raheny Shamrock AC) was the winner in a time of 1:57.32. Tina Molloy was first woman and first W40 in 2:20.39. In the half marathon in 76:47, Holly Brennan (Cilles AC) was first woman in 1:28.55. Edel McCreery (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) was first woman in the 10km, finishing the tough course in 37:59.


FURTHER AFIELD

At the Grange 10km in Co Sligo on Sunday (October 4), Joseph Lyons (Tallaght AC) finish fifth in 36:06 and Daire Finn (Dublin Track Club) sixth in 36:29. Race winner in 29 min 36 secs was Irish international track athlete Andrew Coscoran (Star of the Sea AC) from Balbriggan who had four minutes to spare on the chasers. 


Also in Co Sligo, Niall Carden (Sportsworld AC) won the O Dubhda Challenge 20-mile at Enniscrone in 2:14.27 . Rossa Hurley (Donore Harriers, M40) finished second in the 10km with a time of 39:30.
