LEINSTER WIN FOR DUFFY

Craig Duffy (Clonliffe Harriers) set a championships record of 6.81 secs when winning the men’s senior 60m at the Leinster Indoors in Athlone on Saturday (January 31) . Michael Farrelly (Raheny ShamrockAC) was also inside the old record when finishing second in 6.83, while Nkenjika Onwumereh (Metro St Brigid’s AC) was third in 6.90. Ciaran O’Farrell (Donore Harriers) won the U20 60m in 6.99. In the women’s 60m, Debbie Lawal (UCD AC) finished second in 7.76 and Isabelle Doyle (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) third in 7.85. Doyle also finished third in the 200m, won by Emily Lyne (UCD AC) in 25.02. Darragh Murphy (UCD AC) was third in the men’s 400m in 49.96. Over the longer distances, Saoirse Fitzgerald (Lucan Harriers) won the women’s 1500 title in 4:37.91, while taking the men’s 800m title in 1:58.98 was Godwin Mathias (Dundrum South Dublin). In the field, multi-eventer Louise King (DSD AC) won the women’s high jump and was second in the shot.


DUBLINERS ON TOUR! 

Performance of the weekend came from Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin AC) who set a new Irish indoor record of 6.24m when finishing third in the long jump at the Razorback Invite in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Friday (January 30),

At the Millrose Games in New York, American-based Margaret Hayden (Tallaght AC) who coaches at Manhattan College in New York, finished third in the women’s weight throw with a best effort of 18.40m. Hayden has finished second behind Nicola Tuthill (UCD AC) in the hammer at the National Championships for the past three years.


At the John Terrier Meet in Boston on Saturday, Brian Fay (Raheny Shamrock AC) finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 13:21.68. Lughaidh Mallon (UCD AC) ran a personal best 3:56.34 for the mile finishing third in his heat and 19th overall, while Cillian Kirwan (Raheny Shamrock AC) was 12th overall in the 800m with a time of 1:48.65

In Houston, Texas, Sean Aigboboh (Tallaght AC) ran a national lead time of 21.50 secs for the 200m.

At the Scottish Indoor International in Glasgow on Saturday, Bori Akinola (UCD AC) won the men’s 60m in 6.59 putting him top of the current Irish rankings. Mollie O’Reilly (DSD AC) was eighth in the women’s 60m with a time of 7.44. Winning the para 60m in 7.69 was Orla Comerford (Raheny Shamrock AC) 


TRACK AND FIELD LIVE SERIES 

The fourth round of the the Track and Field Live meet in the NIA, Abbotstown, Wednesday (January 28) proved a happy hunting ground for the Woodger family of local club Metro St Brigid’s AC. Louie won the men’s elite 1500m in 3:49.33, while in the 800m, older brother Finn was second in a personal best 1:50.73. Race winner was American visitor Craig Engels who clocked 1:49.17. Robyn Carey (Lusk AC) proved fastest in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:20.18. Best in the men’s long jump was Willem Gueskens (DSD AC) with a 6.59 leap. 


Next Track and Field Live meet takes place in the NIA on Wednesday February 11 with the final round on March 4. 


ROADS

Killian Mooney (Dundrum South Dublin AC) finished a fighting second behind John O’Regan (St John’s AC) at the 34th John Treacy Dungarvan 10-Mile, one of three big races held on Sunday (February 1), with both athletes breaking 50 minutes. 

 O'Reagn finished in 48:47 and Mooney in 49:07. Third in 50:04 was Gavin Curtin (Donore Harriers). His clubmate Kane Collins finished sixih in 51:0. In the age groups, Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers) finished seventh overall and first M40, while Gerry Boyle (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) was first M65 and Sheila Verdon (Portmarnock AC) second W65. Liffey Valley’s trio of Ellie O’Driscoll, Mollie O’Donnell and Jen Preston finished second behind Leevale in the women’s team competition. Sportsworld finished seventh, with 48 teams finishing. Donore Harriers finished fifth of the 68 men’s team. Close to 3,000 completed the race. 


At the Trim 10-Mile, Co Meath, on Sunday (February 1) which, like the Dungarvan race was a sell-out with close to 2,000 finishers, Eoin Gallagher (Skerries AC) finished first M40 in 53:32. Bernard Geraghty (Donore Harriers) was first M45 and Noreen Brouder (Sportsworld) second W45. Donore Harriers finished was fifth of the 54 men’s teams entered. In the women’s team competition, Crusaders was fifth and Brothers Pearse seventh, with nine teams finishing.


At the Dundalk 10km, Danny O’Sullivan (Dundrum South Dublin) was third overall in 33:46. Aisling Mohan (Metro St Brigid’s AC) was first woman in 39:06.
