ROADS - TEAM WIN FOR RAHENY WOMEN AT NATIONAL 5-MILE
Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC) led home over 1,500 finishers at the the Irish Runner 5-Mile in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, finishing in a time of 24 mins 27 secs. First Dublin athlete was Patrick MacGabhann (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) who was sixth in 25:41. Kieran Regan (Brothers Pearse AC) was tenth and first M35 in 26:37 and Anthony Doran (Clonliffe Harries) 14th and first M40 in 26:57. Finishing third woman and first W40 was Fiona Roche (Raheny Shamrock AC) in 28:47. Other age group winners from Dublin were Sinead Tighe (Brothers Pearse AC) W50, Annette Kealy (Raheny Shamrock AC) W55 and Mary Walsh (Raheny Shamrock AC) W75. Of the men, Rathfarnham WSAF pair Paul Fleming and Tom Cuddy won the M50 and M65 titles respectively. The race incorporated an Irish championships, with Raheny Shamrock winning the women’s senior title and Clonliffe Harriers second of the men followed by Raheny Shamrock. Donore Harriers won the M35 category ahead of Brothers Pearse AC and Raheny Shamrock, while best of the M50 teams was Brothers Pearse followed by Blackrock AC and Raheny Shamrock. Donore Harriers finished a close second to winers Clonmel AC in the W35 category while Raheny Shamrock was second of the W50 teams followed by Lucan Harriers.
DUBS ON TOUR!
Outside Dublin, junior athlete Rhys Johnson (Donore Harriers) was the winner of the Jack Cox 10km in 32 mins 19 secs in Kilcormac, Co Offaly. Also on Sunday, Hungarian international athlete Istvan Szogi, a member of the Dublin Track Club, was a comfortable winner of the Derravaragh 5 mile in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath in 26 mins 59 secs. Winning the 10-mile race in 56:51 was Mark Fleming, also of Dublin Track Club. It was a second win in two days for Szogi, who, on Friday evening, had led home 600 finishers at the Boyne 5km in Drogheda, Co Louth in a time of 14 mins 49 secs.
Further south, Michael Brady (Raheny Shamrock) was the winner of the Waterford Viking Marathon in 2 hrs 24 mins 20 secs and Claire Molly Hyland (Crusaders AC) first woman in 3:02.034. In the half marathon, Alex Murphy (Dundrum South Dublin AC) was first woman in 82 mins 16 secs.
On Saturday, at the annual Michael Manning Dunshaughlin 10km in Co Meath, the top four all broke thirty minutes, with John Travers (Donore Harriers) the fourth of them in 29 mins 27 secs. Third woman in 37:58 was Ruth Wilson (DSD AC). In the age groups, Sharon McGrane (Civil Service Harriers) was first W60 with her club mate Carol Dempsey a close second, and Martin Kelly (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) first M65. The race was the fifth round of the Peugeot Race Series.
Finally, in Co Tipperary, Alex Crowley (Dublin City Harriers) was the winner of the Dave Fogarty 4-Mile in Thurles on Thursday (June 18). His time was 22 mins 8 secs
TRACK AND FIELD - DSD AND CLONLIFFE LEAD LEAGUE QUALIFIERS
At the preliminary round of the National T-F League in Tullamore on Saturday (June 20), Dundrum South Dublin, defending champions in both the men and women’s premier division, qualified both their teams for the final. Also making the top eight in the women’s competition were Clonliffe Harriers and Donore Harriers. Rathfarnham WSAF, Crusaders AC, MSB AC and Raheny Shamrock will all compete in Division 1. Many times champions, Clonliffe Harriers, who narrowly lost out to DSD last year, top the men’s table, with DSD second and Crusaders AC fifth. Dublin clubs competing in division 1 are Raheny Shamrock and Donore Harriers. Winners for the DSD women were Mollie O’Reilly 100m, Ciara Wilson Bowen walk, Molly Mullally triple jump, Molly Hourihan weight for distance, Emma Roche discus and the two relay teams. For the Clonliffe Harriers men, Marcus Lawler 100m, Greg Hosseny walk, Frantisek Kadlec 400m hurdles, Eoin Sheridan discus and Keith Marks long jump all took maximum points.
The league final takes place in Santry on Sunday August 9.
TRACK AND FIELD - AWAY
Cathal Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) clocked a time of 3:34.98 to finished eighth in the 1500m at the FBK Games in Hengelo, the Netherlands on Sunday (June 21). Winning the Para 100m in a PB 11.76 secs was Orla Comerford (Raheny ShamrockAC).
In Vienna, Cillian Kirwan (Raheny Shamrock) finished fourth in 800m in a personal best 1:45.63, while in Stuttgart, Eric Favors with a best of 20.13 finished seventh in the men’s shot.
In Germany, Michael Farrelly (Raheny Shamrock AC) finished fourth in the men’s 100m at the Midsummer Team Challenge on Saturday with a time of 10.62 secs. Also in Germany, Bori Akinola (UCD AC) ran 10.24 secs to finish 4th in the A 100m race at the Anhalt Dessau track meet on Friday (June 19). On Thursday, Marcus Lawler (Clonliffe Harriers) ran 20.79 for fourth in the men’s 200m in Malaga, Spain.
