HYLAND AND RYAN WIN ‘HALF' IN THE PARK
James Hyland (Raheny Shamrock AC) led home 6,464 finishers the Dublin Half Marathon in the Phoenix Park on Sunday (September 20) in a time of 68:52 secs. Second in 69:08 was Eddie Connor (Brothers Pearse, M35). Third in the Dublin Championships, held in conjunction with the race, was Matthew O’Connell (Donore Harriers) who was seventh overall in 72:04. First woman in 76:46 was Meghan Ryan, and with her club mate Ruby Wall second in 77:51 and Jessica Quinn fourth woman in 80:30.making it a DSD clean sweep in the Dublin Championships. Paralympian Greta Streimikyte (UCD AC), better known as a track athlete but moving up the distances at the moment, was sixth woman and fourth Dubliner in 81:00.
Winning Dublin age group titles were Shane Ashmore (Donore Harriers) M35, Anthony Doran (Clonliffe Harriers) M40, Mick McMahon (Clonliffe Harriers) M45, Bernard Geraghty (Donore Harriers) M50, Brian Kelly (Raheny Shamrock) M55, Ray Walsh (Crusaders AC) M60, and Tony O’Halloran (DSD) M65 of the men and Eilish Roe (DSD AC) W35, Fiona Stack (Raheny Shamrock) W40, Alex Wood (LSA) W45, Aileen Dooley (Portmarnock AC) W50, Una Gaines (Lusk AC) W55, Olwyn Dunne (Crusaders AC) W60 and Grainne Grennan (Blackrock AC) W65 of the women.
At the Griffith Avenue Mile in Dublin on Sunday afternoon, Lucas Ryan of Crusaders AC finished second in 4.08. A close fourth in 4:09 was Fintan Kearns of Clonliffe Harriers. First M40 was Eoin Durkan (Donore Harriers) with Michael Counsel (Raheny Shamrock AC) first M60. A total of 152 completed the men’s race, most of them from the ‘classic’ athletics clubs.
With a time of 4:38 Elizabeth Gahan (Dublin City Harriers) led home eighty-three finishers in the women’s mile. Niamh Kelly (Clonliffe Harriers) was second in 4:47 and Charlotte Myers (CrusadersAC) third in 4:49. Mairín Shine (Crusaders AC) was first W70.
ABROAD
At the World Athletics Road Running Championships, Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday (September 20), Hiko Tonosa (DSD AC) finished 72nd of the 121 finishers in 63:27. A day earlier, in the women’s mile, Sarah Healy (UCD AC) rounded out her season by finishing 13th in 4:32.98. In the men’s mile, Cathal Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) finished 18th in 3:58.40, while in the men’s 5km, Brian Fay (Raheny Shamrock) was 38th in 13:48.
On Friday evening (September 18), Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) finished a creditable fourth place in the 200m in 22.64 secs at the Athlos women only meeting in London). Adeleke earned $15,000 for her 22.64.
