ROADS - HOME
Ian Guiden (Clonliffe Harriers) took a solid victory at the Great Ireland Run 10km, in Dublin’s Phoenix Park on Sunday (April 12) with his time of 30 mins 13 secs putting him five seconds clear of Jamie Walsh (Galway City Harriers) who finished second in 30:18. Kane Collins (Donore Harriers) was fourth in 30:27, while ninth and first M35 was Kevin Kelly (Raheny Shamrock AC). Peirce Geoghegan (Liffey Valley AC) was first M40 followed by Kevin Donagher (Rathfarnham WSAF AC). Other category winners from Dublin clubs were Declan Power (Clonliffe Harriers) M55, with Des Tremble (Donore Harriers) second, and Gerry Boyle (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) M65, with his clubmate Tom Cuddy second.
Winning the national W35 title was Mollie O’Donnell (Liffey Valley AC) followed by Laura Ryan (Rathfarnham WSAFAC) and Molly Rickard (Raheny Shamrock AC) in a clean sweep for Dublin clubs. Niamh Keegan (Dundrum South Dublin AC) was first W40 followed by Amy Moriarty (Donore Harriers). Other category were Caoimhe Kilroy (Metro St Brigid’s AC) W45 and Zoe Quinn (Raheny Shamrock AC) W50. Kate McCrystal (UCD AC) was first U23. In the senior team categories, Liffey Valley AC won the women’s senior title, and finished second of the men behind Galway City Harriers. At over 35 level, the Raheny Shamrock men and the Donore Harriers women were the winners. In the women’s competition, Raheny Shamrock were second and Rathfarnham WSAF AC third. In the over 50 age category, Raheny Shamrock finished second of the men and Rathfarnham WSAF third of the women.
Winning the Dublin City Council BHAA 6km at St Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday morning (April 11) was Patrick Joseph MacGabhann (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) who sprinted past Sean Doran with the line in sight. The pair were timed at 19 mins 32 secs and 19 mins 33 secs. Third and first M50 in 20:43 was Paul Fleming (Rathfarnham WSAF AC). First woman was Edel McCreery in 22:42. Catherine King was second in 26:55 and Ramune Zolbiene third in 27:13. Both Wdwl and Catherine are members of Rathfarnham WSAF AC. Age group winners included J.P. Kelly fourth and first M45, Sean McCreery M60, Pat McCavana M65, Donal Murphy M70, Sharon Radburn W40, Sharon Woods W55 and Josephine Killeen W60.
A large group from the Lord Mayor Five Alive Challenge also completed the race, with Carl Flynn in 17th place leading them home and Loretta McHugh first of the women and third W45.
TRACK & FIELD - IN THE USA
At College Farm, Texas, over the weekend, Sean Aigboboh (Tallaght AC) ran a PB time of 20.54 secs for 200m. A day later he ran a wind-assisted 10.21 secs to finish second in the 100m.
Siún Quinn (Bros Pearse AC) finished second in the women’s high jump with a 1.78 effort at a college meet in Champaign, Illinois. In Providence, Rhode Island, Cormac Dixon (Tallaght AC) won the men’s 3000m in 8:19.62.
At the Duke Invitational, Durham , North Carolina, Sean Cronin (Clonliffe Harriers) finished third in his 1500m heat with a personal best time of 3:40.26. In a different heat, Sean O’Donoghue (Dublin City Harriers) ran 3:42.71 for ninth place..

At the Trasna na Blianta 24-Hour, 12-hour and 6-hour races, held on the Le Cheile Track in Leixlip, Co Kildare held over the weekend (April 11-12), Mick Hallows (North Clondalkin RC) won the 6-hour race running 71.4 km
MEET & TRAIN
A social run and prize-giving hosted by Crusaders AC at Irishtown Stadium marked the end of this winter’s Meet and Train league for women. Team winners were: Diamond - Sportsworld A 44, 2 Sportsworld B 79, 3 Crusaders Emerald 180. Platinum -1 Crusaders Sapphire 383, 2 Esker A 389, 3 Blackrock B 465.
