BREAKTHROUGH WIN FOR DONORE’S LAADJEL

Abdel Laadjel (Donore Harriers) was a clear winner of the men’s 8km race at the US Collegiate Big 10 Conference Cross-Country Championships held in East Lansing Michigan on Friday (October 31). ‘It’s definitely a relief — this is the moment I’ve been waiting for,’ said Laadjel after his win. Laadjel, who transferred to Oregon from Providence College last January, was also leading his team to victory. Last July, Laadjel, who is from Lucan, finished eighth in the 10,000m at the European U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway. In 2021, he was sixth in the European U20 Cross-Country Championships at Abbotstown, leading the Irish team to silver. In 2022, he set Irish U20 records in both the 5000m and 10,000m. As a schoolboy, he won the All Ireland intermediate cross-country title. On Saturday 15 November, Laadjel will line out for Oregon again at the NCAA Region Championships in Sacramento, California. The top two teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships a week later.


DUBLIN TREBLE IN SALLINS

In Co Kildare at the Sallins Community Run 10km, Sean Doran (Clonliffe Harriers) led a Dublin club treble when he won the race in 32 mins 8 sec. y Brian O’Kelly (Crusaders AC, M40) was second in 32:15 and Kieran Little (Blackrock AC) third in 33:15. Faye Dervan (Dublin City Harriers) was first woman and overall winner of the 5km in 16:47.


DUBLIN CHAMPIONSHIPS: NOW IN WESTMEATH

Following the cancellation of this Sunday’s Dublin Senior and Junior /U19 Cross-Country Championships, Leinster Athletics has agreed to incorporate the championships into their championships at Kilbeggan racecourse in Co Westmeath next Saturday 8 November. The races were due to take place first at Citywest, Saggart and then at Corkagh Park Clondalkin. Further details elsewhere on this website.
